Chevy GRP PreRunner by Baja Racing Shop

Baja Racing Shop or BRS is an off-road race car shop with more than 14 years of history building and prepping race cars in Ensenada. They are located just a few blocks away from the traditional start location of the Baja 1000 & 500. Founder Alejandro Murillo let us come in and shoot their latest build – an 800HP full size Chevy pre-runner.

While building race cars south of the border is not something new of course, most of the shops in Baja focus on the limited classes that attract the local racers like 7sx and VW-powered race vehicles. Baja Racing Shop has prepped vehicles with several victories in the 7sx class in SCORE, 7open in RECORD and CODE and many Class 10 races in the United States. Trophy Trucks, however, aren’t that common, so when we heard about this vehicle we had to go check it out.

In 2018, Alejandro and his client Jose Gonzales of GRP race shop (another race shop in Ensenada) had the idea to build something big but ‘basic‘ – a long travel truck with 4-link suspension in the back. After a year of planning and designing, the build started in 2019 with the 100% tube-frame chassis.

Phase two continued with creating a 29″ travel 4-link rear suspension with the help of 4.5 King Shocks and later on, phase three finished the build with the front suspension and a fully custom center mount with 25″ travel.  The final build was completed by finishing the interior, accessories and fine tune details.
